Your Missouri Nursing License Guide

Registered nurses who do not have an NLC multistate license but hold a current nursing license in another state or U.S. territory can apply for licensure by credentialing, also known as licensure by endorsement, through the Montana Board of Nursing. First-time licensees would apply for licensure by examination.

Missouri Nursing License Renewal

The application requirements for a Missouri nursing license by endorsement:

  • Completed, signed, and notarized application
  • $55 fee, paid by check or money order to the Missouri State Board of Nursing
  • Evidence of U.S. citizenship or lawful presence
  • Criminal background checks
  • Verification of license(s). Most states use the NURSYS online verification system; if yours does not, you will need to request verification from your state licensing board.
  • Official final transcript from your nursing education program. The transcript must include your current name, date of completion, degree or diploma awarded, the signature of the director/registrar, and the school seal or stamp.

Is Missouri a Compact State?

Missouri is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), also known as the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC), which allows RNs or LPNs to have one multistate nursing license. Nurses with a multistate license, issued by their primary state of residence, can practice in any of the other compact member states. The licensing standards in NLC states require all applicants for a multistate nursing license to meet the same requirements.

How to Renew Your Nursing License in Missouri?

LPNs and RNs renew their Missouri nurse licenses in opposite years. LPN licenses expire May 31 of even years and RN licenses expire on April 30 of odd years.

Reminders for a Missouri nursing license renewal are sent via the NURSYS E-Notify system, and by postcards that are mailed three (3) months prior to the license expiration date. These notices contain instructions on how to renew your Missouri nursing license online. It normally takes 3-5 business days for a license renewal to process once submitted.
